Lawn mowing

1/4 acre is about 10,900 sq ft. Use tough for slopes, gates, overgrowth, wet grass, heavy trimming, or backyard access.

Weekly is ~26 visits in most regions; longer or shorter seasons vary. Leave blank for one-shot quotes.

Pricing math

Mulch

2 in is a common refresh depth. Leave cubic yards blank to calculate it from bed size. Add prep, removal, delivery, or tight access separately.

Pricing math
Bed sq ft × depth ÷ 324 = cubic yards, then $75.00 / yd, minimum $150.00

Aeration / overseeding

Core aeration and overseeding often sell together in fall. Overseeding here is labor-only seed application. Add seed, materials, prep, fertilizer, topdressing, or watering guidance separately.

Pricing math
Core aeration $16.00 / 1,000 sq ft, overseeding labor $24.00 / 1,000 sq ft

Cleanups

Crew hours means total labor hours. A 2-person crew for 2 hours is 4 crew hours. Add time or fees for wet leaves, limbs, bagging, long drags, stairs, or local disposal rules.

Formula notes

Here's how the number gets built.

Mowing starts with a $35 base, then adds $3.50 per 1,000 sq ft. The visit minimum is $40. Access changes the result: 0.9× for easy, 1.0× for standard, and 1.25× for tough access or overgrowth.

Mulch uses $75 per cubic yard with a $150 minimum. If you enter bed area and depth, cubic yards are bedSqFt × depthIn ÷ 324.

Aeration is $16 per 1,000 sq ft with a $125 minimum. Overseeding is $24 per 1,000 sq ft with a $200 minimum. Overseeding is labor-only seed application. Seed/materials, prep, fertilizer, and watering are not included.

Cleanup is crew-hours × $65 plus any dump/disposal fee. Leaf cleanup has a $150 minimum. Spring and fall cleanup have a $200 minimum.

Add-ons use common starter rates. Per service:

  • Bed edging — $3 per linear ft, $75 minimum.
  • Bed weeding — $65 per crew-hour, $75 minimum.
  • Shrub trimming — $65 per crew-hour, $100 minimum.
  • Old mulch removal — $75 per cubic yard, $100 minimum.
  • Debris haul-away — $175 per pickup load, $150 minimum.
  • Dethatching — $45 per 1,000 sq ft, $200 minimum.

Minimums exist because every visit has fixed work. Drive time. Load and unload. Setup. Fuel. Admin. A small job still has to pay for the trip.

Crew-hours count people and time together. A 2-person crew for 2 hours is 4 crew-hours.

FAQ
What if my market charges more or less than these defaults?

Use this as starter math, not a price book. Adjust the rates inline via the "Pricing math" row in each section — the calculator updates as you type. Save your rates permanently inside YardBill after signup.

How are minimums calculated, and why do small jobs still cost $40–$200?

Minimums cover the fixed cost of showing up. Even a small job still takes scheduling, drive time, setup, fuel, cleanup, and admin.

Does the mowing price include trimming, edging, and blow-off?

The mowing line is meant for a normal maintenance visit. If trimming, edging, or blow-off is heavier than usual, use tough access or add a separate line in YardBill.

Why is overseeding priced separately from aeration?

They are often sold together, but they are different jobs. Separating them makes it clear what the customer is buying and lets you remove one without rebuilding the quote. Overseeding here is labor-only seed application; seed/materials, prep, fertilizer, and watering are not included.

Why is mulch priced per cubic yard instead of per bag?

Most landscape crews estimate bulk mulch in cubic yards. If you buy bags, convert the job to cubic yards first or edit the quote line after signup.

Does cleanup include haul-away and dump fees?

The cleanup formula includes labor and an optional dump/disposal fee. If hauling debris is a separate trip or load, add yard debris haul-away too.
